PUSH PULL

As part of the 2009 L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, The Signet Bureau presented a marionette performance.

In the 17th Century, when printing was still inaccessible to the masses, small mannequins called 'Jointed Babies' were used instead of the modern fashion plate. These articulated marionettes were costumed immaculately and sent throughout the world to promote the latest fashion and styles.

Using these 'jointed babies' as inspiration, The Signet Bureau has created site-specific life-sized marionettes. Used to explore the display of fashion in today's world, these moveable mannequins reinterpret the use of the dress up doll and re-invent the traditional 'shop dummy'.
